The Treaty that effectively ended the civil war in the south west of England was signed at Poltimore House.
Imagine the scene, Sir John Bampfylde and his wife Gertrude Copleston had already received General Fairfax as a guest.
Berkeley arrived with his men to start negotiations and on 9th April 1646 he and Fairfax signed the Treaty.
